All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Tùng is a 10 year-old boy who has a beautiful voice and loves to sing. He is cognitively and developmentally impaired and the oldest of three children in his family. Tùng’s parents are unskilled laborers, and struggle to survive on a daily basis. He and his youngest sibling have suffered from rickets due to inadequate nutrition. Tùng likes the Center very much and participates in program “field trips” to local places in Hue. To refine his fine motor skills, he kneads clay and receives help to write his letters. His teachers are working closely with Tùng to improve his self-care, such as brushing his teeth.
