All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Long is the youngest of three children in his family. He is 10 years old and has Down’s Syndrome. His parents are older and extremely poor. Long has thrived at the An Hoa Center since 2007. He likes dancing and joining in the extracurricular activities, such as celebration of holidays. He has improved his speech and communication with others. His teachers report that Long is most responsive when he is spoken to in a gentle voice. In addition, he enjoys it when teachers hold his hand and help him to write words.
