All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Nguyen is an 8-year old girl who is playful and strongwilled. She has Down’s Syndrome and has attended the program since 2007. Her mother is very poor and is raising her alone after Nguyen’s father left the family. Her mother works every day, and the day program provides her mother with respite, and provides Nguyen with 3 meals per day (and snacks). In her time at the An Hoá Center, Nguyen has learned to speak more clearly and has learned to identify her colors. She has improved her fine motor and gross motor skills. Perhaps most importantly, she has gained social skills. Her favorite activities are dancing, doing puzzles, and drawing.
