All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Nga is an 11 year old girl. She suffers from Down’s Syndrome and an injury from her birth. Her family is extremely poor. Nga needs a lot of support and has been enrolled at the An Hoa Center since 2007. She always sucks her fingers and pulls out her hair, which the teachers do their best to discourage. Nga responds especially well to music. In addition to teaching her basic life skills and self-care, she has learned to count coins and money. The teachers have helped her improve her fine motor skills by kneading clay and drawing.
