All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Le has Down’s Syndrome and suffers from heart disease. He was born prematurely, and is now 12 years old. Le’s family is very poor and they appreciate being able to send Le to the An Hoa Center when he is well enough to attend. Because of his health conditions, Le has frequent absences from the program. Despite this, over the past three years, Le has made great progress. He has learned to speak more clearly and perform basic self-care skills. He is social and especially likes celebrating the other children’s birthdays, which is a wonderful community-building activity at the Center. If you asked Le what he has learned at the program, he would tell you that he can write. His favorite letter to write is the letter “O”!
