All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Tien is a 15 year old boy who enrolled at the Center when the program began in 2007. He has autism and a host of chronic health problems. Tien is the youngest of five children in his family. All 4 of his siblings dropped out of regular school because their parents could not afford to pay for it. Tien’s father is ill and cannot work. His mother does embroidery to feed her family and keep them living together. Despite the extremely difficult circumstances, Tien enjoys the program at the Center. He has excelled in creative arts and paints beautifully. In addition, he has learned basic math. He is bound to become an apprentice to help his mother support the family.
