All of the children are valued in the An Hoa Social Caring Center community. As local families have visited the Center over the past two years, they have observed the resilience, creativity and beauty in the children with special needs. Here are a few of their stories (printed with permission by the Center and the children's families):

Huy is a 14-year old deaf and mute Vietnamese boy. His mother works as a housekeeper and has very little money. She cannot afford to send him to a private school for deaf chi ldren, but wants him to have opportunities to learn. There is no charge to send him to the An Hoá Center, although space is limited to 20 children. Huy has been a student in the day program since it began in 2007. Despite his disabilities, Huy is known more for what he CAN do than for what he CAN’T do. He is very bright, hardworking and has a joyful spirit. He is also an artist and paints beautiful pictures. His artwork is one of the ways in which he can communicate with others.
