Yangxin Children's Welfare Institute

Yangxin is one of the poor counties in the southeast part of Hubei province. Yangxin Children's Welfare Institute is a new institute set up in 1997. There are currently 56 children in the orphanage. Most of them are fostered by families in the county. Eighteen children are of school age and living in the institute.

Sister classes

A sister connection has been established between Yangxin Welfare Institute's toddler class and the kindergarten second class at St. John's School in Brunswick, ME, USA. The kindergarden in America bought a ping pong table for the Yangxin children.

One Plus One

11 personal connections have been made between teenage orphans who are too old to be adopted and Western families that have adopted Chinese children. These connections remain active although we are no longer accepting new 1+1 applications.

The goal is to connect every teenager at the orphanage with a family that will commit to a loving, long-term relationship, and to organize the 1+1 families into groups that advocate for the orphans.

Funds were donated so that Yuan Xi Hua could receive surgery for lymph node and kidney problems.

A donation made by the Hadsell family was used to provide glasses and a corrective operation for extropia of the eye for 15-year old Huang Linlin at the Yangxin Children's Welfare Institute.

Surgery for congenital condition

Funds were donated so that little Yang Xing Jia could receive surgery at the Wuhan Children's Hospital to correct a congenital condition of being born with a closed anus.

The AFC Foundation funded a surgery to remove a blood vessel tumor from behind this child's right ear.
