Kenscoff Community Project in Haiti - 2012 Update

The roof, the walls, the plumbing and the electricity are in place.  The rooms are brightly painted.  The floors sparkle with polish.  The kitchen is ready to serve wholesome, balanced meals made from local ingredients in the traditional manner.  The bookshelves and study room are being filled with school supplies.  New child sized furniture stands ready.  Hot and cold running water and sanitary facilities are accessible on each floor.  The brand new 6,000 square foot Children's Home of Kenscoff, Haiti is almost ready to welcome 65 previously homeless babies and young children.

The Kenscoff children recently toured their soon to be home, so different from the crowded weather-beaten Red Cross tents they had grown accustomed to, and danced with joy and gratitude.  Now they look forward to moving in day, to planning a garden, to going to school, to baths and meals and show, to safety.  Now they look forward with hope!  This amazing transformation is due to the very generous financial support of several key AFCF donors.

In 2010 the Alliance for Children Foundation began a dynamic partnership with another American foundation with 12 years experience providing humanitarian aid to and facilitating adoptions from Haiti.  Our goals is to create a self sustaining community in Kenscoff, a small rural Community in the mountains east of Port-au-Prince.  The first step is to support the community's homeless, parentless children.  From the initial land purchase to the rapid achievement of AFCF's first phase goal, an operating Children's Home, was made possible in large part because of the support and assistance of the local Kenscoff community.  The high degree of cooperation and communication between AFCF and Kenscoff residents has inspired several other aid organizations to contribute their own expertise to Kenscoff.  One is building a community center which will house a medical clinic, vocational training workshops, and a women's economic development program, on land adjacent to the children's Home.  AFCF was the direct catalyst for this successful undertaking!

The next phase for AFCF in Kenscoff is the construction of a school for 300 children.  We have the plans, we have the expert partner, we have the community support.  All we need is you!  For more information about the Kenscoff Community Project and how to get involved please contact Bonnie Delongchamp.  bonnie@allforchildren.org
